Christmas Parade Coming to an End?

This article on the Cincinnati.com website, http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20091102/NEWS01/311020028, discuses the end of a 28-year old tradition of a having a Christmas parade for an Ohio city. The parade used to be sponsored by the city’s business association, but it backed out this year over concerns over a lack of volunteers.
I don’t think this parade was meant to be. Even though the city’s residents seem to care deeply for this parade, the churches don’t. None of the churches have offered to sponsor the parade. The residents don’t want to compromise either, a suggestion to rename the parade to ‘Amelia Holiday Parade’ caused some residents to threaten to protest alongside the parade. And on the other side, the city might be sued for using public funds for a religious parade and the police chief does not want to close the part of the highway where the parade usually ends. It’s very sad that this is happening, but the residents should understand that no one wants to support the parade financially and be able to compromise. The article puts a negative light, but it seems justified because no one seems to get along on the subject.
